The Faculty of Law of UCLy is organizing a conference the thursday 17 november 2022 about the abortion rights in the United States: the reversal of the dobbs case law.

  • Room A025 (Mérieux) - at 6 pm

About the case dobbs

In 1973, the court had ruled in Roe v Wade that pregnant women were entitled to an abortion during the first three months of their pregnancy, while allowing for legal restrictions and bans in the second and third trimester.

On June 24, 2022, in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, the Supreme Court of the US reversed the famous 1973 Roe v. Wade decision and eliminated the federal guarantee that had protected a woman's right to an abortion for almost 50 years. This landmark decision represents a clear step backward in that it leaves it to the states to decide the fate of this fundamental right.
