Julien GUINAND

Initially, my research work attempted to grasp the practice of war made in the service of the King of France within the border area of ??the gates of Italy delimited by the Rhône and the Po during the wars of Italy and more particularly at the time of the wars of rivalry between Valois and Habsburg. This praxis is that of the captains, the combatants, but also of the communities and populations called upon to take part in the operations. What emerged was the highlighting of a state of war of a State (the kingdom of France) at war and even more, the workings of the total social fact that is war.
This reflection is today extended in the space and time of the first Modernity. My work focuses on the polysemic concept of engagement in war and on the study of border areas, in particular those confronted with the fortification policies undertaken by the authorities. They thus place me in a history of warfare, powers and techniques from the 16th to the middle of the 17th century.
