E-commerce : applicable law, consumer protection, platforms responsibility

The course will explore the issues that may arise in contractual relationships formed over the internet. E-commerce often involves cross-border issues and it will be important to understand the rules to determine the applicable law and competent jurisdiction.

The course will then look at consumer protection through the lens of EU law: what protection is available against unfair terms, unfair business practices or if the product/service purchased does not comply to its description or if it is faulty?

Many of these internet transactions are done through online market places/intermediaries that facilitate the transaction between the seller and the customer. The course will explore their responsibility and the legal framework that applies to them.
