ELAN – Cross-Border School for the Franco-Provençal Language
June 2, 2026 – August 31, 2027
Preserving Franco-Provençal Through Education: An Educational Project for an Endangered Transalpine Heritage.
Project Objectives
Project Objectives
The project aims to create two Francoprovençal language teaching modules designed for beginners aged 11 to 15 (CEFR levels A1–A2). The content is based on a comprehensive orthography system capable of accounting for the diversity of local varieties while providing a common, readable framework that can be applied across the Alps. The modules are developed using linguistic data collected in the region and integrated into a structured educational program aligned with the CEFR’s competency frameworks. They will be tested in a pilot program in schools and community organizations in Savoie, Haute-Savoie, and the Aosta Valley. Feedback from this pilot phase will help improve and refine the materials, after which training sessions will be organized for teachers, educators, and cultural organizations to facilitate the implementation of the modules in classrooms or workshops.
The project contributes to the preservation and promotion of an endangered regional language by strengthening cross-border cooperation, the exchange of best teaching practices, and an understanding of the connections between Romance languages. It fosters the development of language skills, intercultural openness, and the transmission of a shared ethnolinguistic heritage among young learners in Savoie, Haute-Savoie, and the Aosta Valley, thereby contributing more broadly to the cultural and heritage enrichment of the cross-border region.

The Erasmus+ KA171 project, formerly known as International Credit Mobility (MIC), provides funding for mobility activities between higher education institutions in countries participating in the Erasmus+ program and partner universities located in the rest of the world. It supports international exchanges of students, faculty, and administrative staff within the framework of institutional partnerships. Participants can engage in study, internship, teaching, or training periods.
Project Objectives:
The program’s objective is to strengthen the international outreach of higher education institutions, promote the exchange of knowledge and skills, and foster sustainable cooperation among partner universities.
