The course gives an introduction to Intellectual Property Law. It explores the different types of protection and the conditions required for each IP right. The backbone of the course is European Intellectual Property law. However, the program is structured to provide a solid background of the international IP legal framework, including references to other jurisdictions, to provide an understanding of the global structure of IP rights. The lectures also bring substantive policy discussions regarding the rationale behind IP rights. The aim of the course is to provide students with a detailed understanding of this field and to lay the basis for understanding the challenges brought by the digitalisation of our society to the traditional concepts of IP, which will be explored in the second semester
