Erasmus+

As part of the Erasmus+ program, you can travel to study or complete an internship in the European Union, which includes the following countries: Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Turkey, North Macedonia, and the United Kingdom.
The monthly amount of the Erasmus+ grant depends on the destination country and the distance in kilometers between Lyon and your mobility location. It consists of a contribution toward living expenses and a flat-rate travel allowance (a single allowance covering both the outbound and return trips). In addition, supplementary payments may be available depending on your personal circumstances and the mode of transportation used (see the section below titled “Inclusion Assistance”).

A grant is not automatically awarded, and the duration of the grant does not necessarily cover the entire duration of the mobility period.

Administrative Procedures

Faculties and schools contact students participating in mobility programs to inform them of the possibility of receiving an Erasmus+ Study or Internship grant.

Recipients then receive instructions on how to complete the administrative procedures to obtain Erasmus+ financial aid:

• Complete a mobility agreement in paper format.

• Complete a Learning Agreement on an online platform for mobility within the European Union, or in a Word document for mobility outside the European Union.

Additional steps will need to be taken during and after the mobility period. Students will receive this information through their faculty or school.

Additional Funding: INCLUSION Assistance

The Erasmus+ program for 2021–2027 has identified four priorities (inclusion and diversity, the environment and the fight against climate change, digital transformation, and active participation in democratic life and citizenship).

In this context, additional financial assistance is being provided.

1- The Inclusion Grant: The purpose of this additional financial assistance is to encourage participation by groups that meet specific criteria (see attached table).

People with disabilities:

Because disability is too often seen as a barrier to student mobility, UCLy has for several years been actively reaching out to its students with disabilities—regardless of the nature of their disability—to encourage them to study abroad.

As a result, these students not only have access—just like all other students—to information specifically about study abroad opportunities (special meetings, posters, web pages, etc.), but also to dedicated points of contact designed to facilitate communication regarding these types of projects. They can, of course, meet with the academic advisors of the departments to which they belong to get details about the support available to them. They may also contact the University’s International Relations Office to receive information on the measures implemented by the Erasmus+ Program.

Furthermore, universities participating in the Erasmus+ Program and UCLy’s partner institutions are systematically asked to identify the resources that can be utilized to better serve these vulnerable students.

Selection criteria and admission requirements:

The selection of candidates who express a desire to participate in a mobility program under the Erasmus+ Program is carried out by each unit (faculties, departments, institutes) at UCLy. While selection criteria may vary from one unit to another, certain factors are shared by all academic advisors responsible for selecting students. The following selection criteria can thus be identified::

• The applicant's academic standing: All semesters prior to the mobility period must be completed. In general, students' academic standing determines their ranking if the number of applications exceeds the number of available spots.

• The applicant's language proficiency:
  Based on an official test or an assessment by teachers (depending on the destination)
  Based on language grades from previous years of study

• The applicant’s motivation::
  • As outlined in their letter
  • Their academic background
  • Their professional background
  • Their interest in the European aspect of their mobility

Admission procedures are decentralized. They are managed by each institute, which is responsible for explaining the applicable procedures under the Erasmus+ Program to students as early as their first or second year.

This information is generally provided through dedicated meetings, documents posted on campus, or made available on each unit’s website.

The quality of institutional agreements:

The selection of partners is based on academic quality criteria (rankings, the identity of departments and disciplines, languages of instruction, the size of partner institutions, etc.) as well as on the values upheld by foreign universities (humanism, social Catholicism, diversity, etc.). The agreements entered into are intended to:

• Student Mobility
• Faculty Mobility
• Administrative Staff Mobility
• Research Areas (Ethics, Intercultural and Interreligious Studies)
• Dual degree programs and academic collaborations are also sought
  
  

Educational Programs and Study Abroad Opportunities:

Studying abroad means becoming increasingly open to other cultures. Going abroad also means gaining knowledge that is equivalent, though not identical. If you’d like to study abroad for a semester or a year while still earning a degree from the Catholic University of Lyon, you can enroll in a dual-degree program or participate in an exchange program or a bilateral agreement.

Principle:

Participating in a supervised exchange program means completing part of your studies at a partner university for a period ranging from 2 months (minimum) to 12 months (maximum). Find out about the available options from the schools and departments to which you are affiliated.

For each university to which you are applying, you must select a certain number of courses that must be approved by your academic advisor at the Catholic University of Lyon for the academic year during which you will be on exchange.
 

Language Preparation

Online language support (EU Academy) supports language learning for participants in the Erasmus+ mobility program. The EU Academy platform offers participants in long-term mobility activities under the Erasmus+ program (Key Action 1) the opportunity to assess their proficiency in the foreign language(s) they will use to study, work, or volunteer abroad. In addition, certain selected participants can take an online language course to improve their skills.
