The Padova Model UPR<\/a> is an academic simulation <\/strong>of a unique United Nations (UN) mechanism which reviews of the human rights records of all UN Member States. This model offers participants an in-depth understanding of the mechanisms and dynamics of the UPR procedure held in Geneva.<\/p>

Padova model UPR 2020<\/h2>

The 3rd Annual Padova Model UPR is organised during 24-27 November 2020 by an international team of students and former delegates, professors, as well as UN and NGO officers, coordinated by the University of Padova<\/a>, with the support of the Human Rights Centre \u201cAntonio Papisca\u201d<\/a>, the Department of Political Science, Law and International Studies (SPGI), and the MA Degree Programme in Human Rights and Multi-level Governance (HRG).<\/p>

The Padova Model UPR 2020 offers students from all over the world a unique opportunity to learn about human rights, democracy and diplomacy. The Padova Model is indeed the first and most comprehensive academic simulation of the UPR. The 2019 edition was featured in the highlights of the UN campaign \u201cStand up for Human Rights<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>

By playing the roles of State delegates, NGOs, and National Human Rights Institutions, participants can gain experience in the UPR procedure, which involves assessing States\u2019 human rights records and addressing human rights violations. Professors of the University of Padova and Padova\u2019s Human Rights Centre, along with the student Secretariat will provide professional guidance and support throughout the event. Participating teams will be assigned different roles, including States under review, the Troika States, reviewing States, Civil Society Organisations, interacting within UPR Working Group and the sessions of the Human Rights Council. During the simulation, participants will have to analyse the human rights performance of the concerned States, take part in the interactive debate, and adopt the final lists of accepted and noted recommendations.<\/p>

Participation is free.<\/strong><\/p>

The program is entirely in English. It is also possible to participate online for those who, due to health conditions, cannot come to Padua.<\/p>

The event is supported by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.<\/p>
