Artistic creation is \u201ca hive in which visible honey is magically turned into something invisible\u201d (Louis Jouvet). So what if studying at UCLy was precisely about adding meaning, spirit and mystery to one\u2019s sensitive incarnation at the heart of the world and knowledge?

<\/p>\n

At the initiative of UCLy management, a \u201cculture mission\u201d has been created during this academic year 2017-2018 to meet its community\u2019s need to constantly renew its perspective on the world. Our campuses are indeed welcoming art more than ever before: photography exhibitions, private viewings, dances, concerts, the exhibition of works of art, etc.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

A multitude of cultural and artistic activities available to students <\/h2>

In the same spirit of daring and openness, the music of Quatuor Debussy filled the Saint-Paul campus. Two magnificent concerts attracted an important flow of students and visitors, namely Viva Latina (in echo to Los Modernos exhibition held in Lyon\u2019s Museum of Fine Arts) and a Mozartian duel, starring no other than the superb tenor Julien Behr, former student of UCLy\u2019s Faculty of Law. The University also welcomed on campus The Concert de l\u2019Hostel Dieu for a multicultural concert, Paris-Madras, a daring combination of eras and styles. It was also delighted by the concerts given by UCLy choirs.

Artistic creation as a way of enriching our curricula<\/p>\n

The cultural and artistic openness that is being deployed throughout UCLy adds essential and complementary qualities to the skills required by the curricula: the propensity to think outside the box, and to sometimes go against the tide, to share ideas in a spirit of co-creation, to listen to personal biases and different ways of thinking, to accept new and sometimes unprecedented ideas and different modes of expression, to be daring and creative, to see the world through the other person\u2019s eyes, those of the artist, and to stand back and put things into perspective in matters of identity, culture, and society.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

With its partners and the entire academic community, the university aims to be an authentic and proactive intelligent force at the service of human beings in all aspects of their lives: intellectual, physical, psychological, spiritual, legal, social, etc. According to Fran\u00e7ois Varillon (1905-1978), \u2018a Man\u2019s task is to act like a Man. In the same vein, the cultural and artistic openness valued in UCLy aims to add essential and complementary qualities to the skills required by the curricula by encouraging all of the following in schools and faculties: the capacity to be daring and creative, to see the world through the other person\u2019s eyes, those
of the artist, and to stand back and put things into perspective in matters of identity, culture, and society. Confronted with language and artistic experience, students go deep into the heart of a space where ideas can be shared and freedom can be freely enjoyed.
