{"id":268280,"date":"2023-10-12T14:00:51","date_gmt":"2023-10-12T12:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/?page_id=268280"},"modified":"2024-04-29T15:59:04","modified_gmt":"2024-04-29T13:59:04","slug":"responsible-sorting","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/en\/responsible-sorting\/","title":{"rendered":"Responsible sorting"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Responsible waste sorting: we're all involved!<\/h2><p>Optimized waste sorting is now in place on the Saint-Paul and Carnot campuses of our university.<\/p><p>A total of <strong>51<\/strong> collection <strong>points<\/strong> have been installed at Saint-Paul and 30 at Carnot (Annecy already has its own sorting policy).<\/p><p>They include <strong>4 types of garbage cans<\/strong>:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Paper\/cardboard<\/li>\n\n<li>Metals and plastics,<\/li>\n\n<li>Non-recyclable waste<\/li>\n\n<li>Biowaste (which will be composted)<\/li><\/ul><p>General Resources will collect glass and occasional wood waste separately. A specific collection point for electronic equipment has been set up in the IT department on Carnot and Saint-Paul.<\/p><p>To encourage use of the sorting bins, there are <strong>no longer any garbage cans in the class<\/strong>rooms. <strong>The employee garbage cans in the offices will remain, but will no longer be collected<\/strong>. Everyone is invited to sort their waste at the collection points, preferably every evening when they leave.<\/p><p><strong>NB<\/strong>: If you have any questions, please contact Hamza Bachar <a href=\"mailto:hbachar@ucly.fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hbachar@ucly.fr<\/a> <\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which waste goes in which garbage ? <\/h2><p>Depending on your location on campus, UCLy provides up to 4 different types of garbage can. It's important that we all sort our waste correctly, and follow a few simple rules to ensure that the mistakes of a few don't derail the efforts of the many!<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In the green biowaste garbage can<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Rotten fruit, apple cores, banana peels, citrus fruit (lemons, oranges, clementines, grapefruit, etc.)<\/li>\n\n<li>Unwrapped coffee grounds, paper-based capsules (excluding aluminum capsules)<\/li>\n\n<li>Tea bags (excluding the staple and provided the bag is made of natural material; paper, silk or cotton muslin, etc.).<\/li>\n\n<li>All leftovers and out-of-date foodstuffs (without packaging): cooked pasta, cooked rice including meat (with bones in small quantities), fish (with bones), eggs (with shell)...<\/li>\n\n<li>Dried flowers and plants...<\/li><\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In the blue garbage can Paper\/Cardboard<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Paper (any color, even with paper clip or staple)<\/li>\n\n<li>Packaging, cardboard boxes<\/li>\n\n<li>Brochures, leaflets<\/li>\n\n<li>Newspaper, magazine, book (without exaggerating to keep the bin manageable)...<\/li><\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In the Plastic\/Metal garbage can<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Plastic bottle<\/li>\n\n<li>Aluminum can (empty)<\/li>\n\n<li>Milk or juice carton<\/li>\n\n<li>Cup (cardboard or plastic)<\/li>\n\n<li>Touillette<\/li>\n\n<li>Expired yoghurt (empty) and lid<\/li>\n\n<li>Plastic or aluminum packaging (clean, no bio-waste).<\/li>\n\n<li>Polystyrene food tray (clean)<\/li><\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In the black non-recyclable garbage can<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Paper tissues (their presence pollutes the flow of materials to be recycled)<\/li>\n\n<li>Wipes, paper towels (even when clean, paper towels are full of organic or chemical products).<\/li>\n\n<li>Unemptied food packaging (cardboard or plastic)<\/li>\n\n<li>Other non-recyclable waste.<\/li><\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Collection days are as follows:<\/strong><\/h2><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Non-recyclables:<\/strong> Monday, Wednesday and Friday<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>Paper, metal and plastic<\/strong>: Tuesday and Thursday<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>Biowaste:<\/strong> Tuesday evening and Friday evening.<\/li><\/ul><p><\/p><div class=\"wp-block-text-image\">\n  <div class=\"row align-bottom collapse\">\n    <div class=\"column small-12 medium-6 xlarge-5 xxlarge-expand wp-block-text-image-info js-fade-scroll\">\n      <p class=\"wp-block-text-image-title\">What happens to our food waste once it's been collected?\u00a0<\/p>\n      <div class=\"wp-block-text-image-intro\"><p>UCLy has chosen to work with <em>Les Alchimistes<\/em>, a company specialized in bio-waste management. Once collected in the green garbage can, our biowaste is taken twice a week to one of Les Alchimistes&#8217; composting sites.<\/p>\n<p>On site, the waste is shredded and mixed before undergoing slow degradation until it matures.
