residence card.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a class=\"lien_interne\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ri-2025-visa-underage-student-booking_eng.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"button\">Underage students &#8211; &#8220;I would like to apply or renew my residence permit&#8221; &gt; &#8220;Moi-m\u00eame (\u00e0 partir de 16 ans&#8221;) &gt; &#8220;Et je suis titulaire uniquement d&#8217;un visa long s\u00e9jour&#8221;<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a class=\"lien_interne\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/algerian-students-list-of-supporting-documents_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"button\">Algerian students &#8211; 1st application for residence card \u2013 List of supporting documents<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n          <\/div>\n                  <div class=\"tabs-panel\" id=\"block_3ba273930def6c4493ef5a9104371308-2\">\n            <p>The <strong>Long Stay Visa as a Residence Permit (VLS-TS)<\/strong> with the mention &#8220;student&#8221; allows you to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>work part-time up to 964 hours per year (about 20h\/week)<\/li>\n<li>cross the Schengen area borders<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Within 3 months after your arrival in France, you mandatory have to validate your &#8220;Student&#8221; visa online. Otherwise your visa won&#8217;t be valid until the expiration date so you risk to face difficulties in France or when you travel.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The visa validation is also mandatory to enrol in the French health insurance and to apply for the housing allowance from the CAF.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE TO FOLLOW?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For this procedure, you will need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>your passport<\/li>\n<li>your visa<\/li>\n<li>a credit card to pay the 50\u20ac stay tax (in tax stamp).<br \/>\nIt doesn&#8217;t need to be a French credit card.<\/li>\n<li>a <strong>personal<\/strong> email address (do not use the one from an university)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Log onto the website: <a href=\"https:\/\/administration-etrangers-en-france.interieur.gouv.fr\/particuliers\/#\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/administration-etrangers-en-france.interieur.gouv.fr\/particuliers\/#\/<\/a><br \/>\n(available in English)<\/p>\n<p>Click on &#8220;<strong>Validate your VLS-TS long stay visa<\/strong>&#8221; and fill the information about your identity, visa, date of arrival in France and address of residence in France.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;<strong>R\u00e9f\u00e9rence r\u00e9glementaire<\/strong>&#8221; (regulatory reference) to choose is: <strong>CESEDA R311-3 6\u00b0<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You will have to buy a <strong>50\u20ac tax stamp<\/strong>.<br \/>\nIf you have a credit card, you can make the purchase directly online on the same website. If you do not have one, you can buy it in a tobacconist&#8217;s shop.<br \/>\nIn both cases, you have to indicated the stamp number on the platform.<\/p>\n<p>Once payment made and information validated, you will receive an email with the validation of your visa, in form of a PDF document named <strong><em>Confirmation de validation<\/em><\/strong>.<br \/>\n<strong>This document is required by the French health insurance and the CAF (housing allowance).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note your &#8220;Identifiant&#8221; number<\/strong> (also known as your &#8220;<em>Num\u00e9ro \u00e9tranger<\/em>&#8220;), which is made up of 10 digits and begins with 99.<br \/>\nYou will need this number for other procedures and for the visa renewal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CAUTION: If you haven&#8217;t done this procedure within 3 months after your arrival, you will considered as illegal in France and in Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-187532\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/ri-2023-validation-visa.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n          <\/div>\n                  <div class=\"tabs-panel\" id=\"block_3ba273930def6c4493ef5a9104371308-3\">\n            <p>You are holding a <strong>&#8220;Student&#8221; long-stay visa<\/strong> and you want to continue your studies at UCLy\/in France after its expiration: you have to submit your visa renewal\u00a0<strong> 4 to 2 months before your visa expiration date<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<em>Example<\/em>:<br \/>\nVisa expiration: 18th August<br \/>\nRenewal to submit between the 18th April and 18th June.<\/p>\n<p>If you didn&#8217;t submitted your renewal application at the lastest 2 months before the expiration date and if the Prefecture accepts to renew you visa, you will have to pay a late fee (255\u20ac instead of 75\u20ac).<\/p>\n<p>This renewal procedure is entirely online, on the platform: <a href=\"https:\/\/administration-etrangers-en-france.interieur.gouv.fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/administration-etrangers-en-france.interieur.gouv.fr<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/ri-2025-engl_-process-student-visa-renewal.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span class=\"button\">&#8220;Student&#8221; visa renewal &#8211; Process &amp; list of documents<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/attestation-dhebergement-fr-en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span class=\"button\">(Example) Accommodation certificate_FR-ENG<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/attestation-de-prise-en-charge-fr-en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span class=\"button\">(Example) Financial responsibility_FR-ENG<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What happens next?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Rh\u00f4ne Prefecture gives priority to renewal applications for permits that are due to expire soon.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Your visa expires and your application is still in process:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>You will receive an \u201c<strong>Attestation de prolongation d\u2019instruction<\/strong>\u201d no later than the day your visa\/residence permit expires.<br \/>\nThis official document extends your right to stay (including your right to work part-time if you have a \u201cstudent\u201d visa or residence permit) and allows you to leave and come back France\/the Schengen Area. Lasting 3 months and being renewable, this document is only valid with the detaining visa\/residence permit, even if this document has expired.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t forget to forward you &#8220;Attestation de prolongation&#8221; to the CAF <\/strong>from your personal account to maintain your rights to the housing benefit<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>If you didn\u2019t receive your extension <u>the day after the expiration date:<\/u><\/strong> please <a href=\"https:\/\/calendly.com\/isd-ucly\/rdv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">book an appointment with the International Student Desk<\/a> or send an email to <a href=\"mailto:isd@univ-catholyon.fr\">isd@univ-catholyon.fr<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4><strong>If your application was incomplete (transcript of grades\/school certificate not available):<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The Pr\u00e9fecture will send you a request for additional documents at the semester star. You will have 30 days to provide them. If not, your application will be closed.<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4><strong>In case of agreement:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>You will receive an \u201c<strong>Attestation de d\u00e9cision favorable<\/strong>\u201d.<br \/>\nThis official document indicate that a card will be made (with validity date), allows you to work part-time and to cross the Schengen Area borders. This document is only valid with the detaining visa\/residence permit, even if this document has expired.<\/p>\n<p>4 to 6 weeks after receiving the Attestation de d\u00e9cision favorable, you will receive a text message on your French number indicating you that your residence permit is available at the Pr\u00e9fecture du Rh\u00f4ne. You will then need to buy a \u20ac75 tax stamp (online on <a href=\"https:\/\/timbres.impots.gouv.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/timbres.impots.gouv.fr\/<\/a> or in a tobacconist) and make an appointment to obtain your residence permit. Remember to bring the tax stamp with you on the day of appointment. However, you will have to pay a 180\u20ac tax stamp penalty when you will get your card.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you visa\/residence permit has expired more than 6 months ago<\/strong>, you won\u2019t be allowed to apply online. You will have to request an appointment with the Prefecture on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.demarches-simplifiees.fr\/commencer\/premiere-demande-titre-sejour-prefecture-rhone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.demarches-simplifiees.fr\/commencer\/premiere-demande-titre-sejour-prefecture-rhone<\/a> so the Prefecture consider your demand. You will have to buy a 50\u20ac tax stamp penalty to apply (online or in a tobacconist&#8217;s shop). No payment on site.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Students from EU\/EEA\/Switzerland<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Residence permit are not mandatory. However, you may be aks for one for some procedures. You have to request an appointment at the Prefecture on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.demarches-simplifiees.fr\/commencer\/premiere-demande-titre-sejour-prefecture-rhone\" target=\"_blank\"
