{"id":171192,"date":"2022-10-24T16:30:20","date_gmt":"2022-10-24T14:30:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/?page_id=171192"},"modified":"2024-03-04T15:27:43","modified_gmt":"2024-03-04T14:27:43","slug":"algorithmic-discrimination-and-gender-equality","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/en\/algorithmic-discrimination-and-gender-equality\/","title":{"rendered":"Algorithmic discrimination and gender equality"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Abstract<\/h2><p>The European Commission in its white paper on artificial intelligence&nbsp; affirms&nbsp; that \u2018[a]rtificial intelligence (AI) entails a number of potential risks, such as [\u2026] gender based or other kinds of discrimination\u2019.&nbsp; The recent European Commission Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025 warns that \u2018 while AI can bring solutions<\/p><p>to many societal challenges, it risks intensifying gender inequalities\u2019 and that \u2018algorithms and related<\/p><p>machine-learning, if not transparent and robust enough, risk repeating, amplifying or contributing to<\/p><p>gender biases that programmers may not be aware of or that are the result of specific data selection\u2019.<\/p><p>How algorithmic discrimination is produced? How can we react? This lesson will tackle those issues in search of a new awareness of AI lack of&nbsp; neutrality and, possibly, of an adequate response.<\/p><p><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Speaker<\/h2><div class=\"wp-block-text-image\">\n  <div class=\"row align-bottom collapse\">\n    <div class=\"column small-12 medium-6 xlarge-5 xxlarge-expand wp-block-text-image-info js-fade-scroll\">\n      <p class=\"wp-block-text-image-title\">Bianca Gardella Tedeschi <\/p>\n      <div class=\"wp-block-text-image-intro\"><p>Bianca Gardella Tedeschi is Associate Professor of Comparative Law in the Univerit\u00e0 del Piemonte Orientale, Italy.\u00a0 She holds and LL.M. degree from Harvard Law School and a Master degree in Cultural Anthropology from Universit\u00e0 di Torino. Her main research topics is private law in comparative perspective and ranges from contract to torts to antidiscrimination law.
