A range of themes in law and technology will be addressed,&nbsp;including key issues such as whether law is always catching up with innovation, the future lawyer, how law changes through communication and how communication changes law, and, introduces the notion of \"The Augmented Lawyer.\"<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Speaker<\/h2><div class=\"wp-block-text-image\">\n  <div class=\"row align-bottom collapse\">\n    <div class=\"column small-12 medium-6 xlarge-5 xxlarge-expand wp-block-text-image-info js-fade-scroll\">\n      <p class=\"wp-block-text-image-title\">David Cowan FRSA<\/p>\n      <div class=\"wp-block-text-image-intro\"><p>David Cowan is Associate Lecturer in Law at the National University of Ireland Maynooth (NUIM) and the Facult\u00e9 de Droit &#8211; Catholic University of Lyon (UCLy). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts.\u00a0David teaches and writes on law &amp; technology, with specialist interests in maritime law, international dispute resolution and legal communications. His latest book <em>Effective Communication for Lawyers <\/em>(Edward Elgar) is published in September, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>He is a member of the Law Society of Ireland Digital Innovation Working Group, an initiative with Finuas Skillnet to explore ways to support training and professional education needs of the legal profession in Ireland.<br \/>\nDavid has lived and worked in Europe, North America, the Gulf and Asia, across the finance, shipping, steel &amp; petrochemical sectors, including leadership positions and consultancy roles.<\/p>\n<p>David studied law at the University of London and is also a graduate of the University of Oxford and University of St Andrews, where he earned his PhD in International Relations.\u00a0He was a visiting scholar at the Boisi Centre for Religion and American Public Life at Boston College, and has delivered lectures and addresses at universities including Oxford, Cambridge, Princeton, Auburn and Boston College.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"column small-12 medium-6 xlarge-7 xxlarge-shrink wp-block-text-image-picture js-fade-scroll\">\n      <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"481\" height=\"560\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/david-cowan.jpg\" class=\"attachment-text_image size-text_image\" alt=\"\" \/>    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AbstractThis first day will set the scene for the Summer School by introducing the challenge of disruption in the practice of law and how [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":151,"featured_media":133556,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-133539","page","type-page","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.1 -
