{"id":101016,"date":"2021-02-11T15:28:47","date_gmt":"2021-02-11T14:28:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/?page_id=101016"},"modified":"2026-07-20T18:47:51","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T16:47:51","slug":"housing-benefit-caf","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/en\/international\/international-student-desk\/administrative-procedures\/housing-benefit-caf\/","title":{"rendered":"Housing benefit (CAF)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As of July 1st 2026, CAF Housing aid (APL, ALS) is only available to EU\/EEA\/Swiss nationals and non-EU nationals holding a scholarship based on social criteria or working.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the conditions to benefit from it?<\/h2><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Non-EU nationals<\/h3><p>You need your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/en\/international\/international-student-desk\/administrative-procedures\/visas-and-residence-permits\/during-your-stay\/\">validated \"Student\" visa<\/a> or \"Student\" residence card and one of the two following:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>an official scholarship (CROUS, Eiffel, regional, government grants)<\/li>\n\n<li>to work at the time of application (including alternance). <\/li><\/ul><p>Refugees, stateless persons also eligible. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caf.fr\/allocataires\/actualites\/actualites-nationales\/apl-ce-qui-change-pour-certains-etudiants-partir-du-1er-juillet-2026\">Consult CAF for all the details<\/a>.<\/p><p>See below for the complete list of documents you need to apply.<\/p><p><\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">EU\/EEA\/Swiss nationals<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A lease contract with your name. It is not possible to obtain the housing benefit if you live in a hotel or Airbnb.<\/li>\n\n<li>No family relationship with the landlord<\/li>\n\n<li>Have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/en\/student-life\/administrative-procedures\/bank-account\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bank account in France<\/a> <strong>or <\/strong>a bank account in the SEPA zone: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and Vatican City.<\/li>\n\n<li>Have <strong>all <\/strong>required documents (list below)<\/li><\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Make sure to have all supporting documents before applying<\/strong><\/h2><div class=\"wp-block-button js-fade-scroll\">\n\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/ri-2026-eng-caf-list-of-documents.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Housing benefits CAF - List of documents\" class=\"button primary\">Housing benefits CAF - List of documents<\/a>\n\n  <\/div><p>***<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-button js-fade-scroll\">\n\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/ri-2025-caf-attestation-de-loyer-et-de-residence-en-foyer.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Attestation de loyer \/ r\u00e9sidence en foyer\" class=\"button primary\">Attestation de loyer \/ r\u00e9sidence en foyer<\/a>\n\n  <\/div><div class=\"wp-block-button js-fade-scroll\">\n\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/ri-2025-caf-declaration-sur-lhonneur-de-ressources-europeens.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"European students: Statement of resources\" class=\"button primary\">European students: Statement of resources<\/a>\n\n  <\/div><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When to apply?<\/h2><p><strong>As soon as you arrive in your accommodation.<\/strong><br>Indeed, <strong>the CAF will take into account the date of your online application<\/strong> and<strong> not the date of entry into your accommodation<\/strong>. <br><br><strong>The allowance is due from the 1st day following the month of your application<\/strong>.<br>For example: If you apply for the housing benefits on the 15th September, your rights to the housing benefit will start in October, that will be pay at the begining of November.<\/p><p><strong>If you do not have a French Social Security number<\/strong> yet (French Health Insurance number): answer \"No\" to the question \"Je poss\u00e8de un num\u00e9ro de S\u00e9curit\u00e9 sociale\".<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-187532\" style=\"width: 400px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ucly.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/ri-2024-num-cpam-etudiants-europe.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p><p>You will get a <strong>provisional CAF number<\/strong> at the end of the process, via email or text: <strong>P + 8 figures<\/strong>. You will also find it on the summary screen.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Amount &amp; processing times<\/h2><p><strong>Caution: <\/strong>processing times can be very long. <br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.caf.fr\/allocataires\/caf-du-rhone\/indicateurs-de-qualite-de-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">See the CAF website to know more.<\/a><\/p><p><strong>If you uploaded ALL documents<\/strong> (see list in PDF above), the CAF will take into account the date of your online application.
